BISHOPS BEDS SINGLE STARTER KIT – WOODEN BED
Introducing the Sprung Slat Starter Packs ideal if you are changing all your bed slats or making your own bed frame.
This wooden single starter kit is for a 3’0” Single Wooden Bed, consisting of 15 Hardwood Sprung Slats with 30 Universal Slat Holders.
Standard bed slats generally tend to be 52mm,55mm, 60mm, and 63mm in width, and 8mm in depth, the starter pack is available in all sizes. The Universal Holders will sit on the internal side rail and centre rail, and can be attached using either wood screws or an industrial stapler. Your mattress will have a new lease of life, with the sprung slat pack. If our slats are too long then just enter your exact measurement and we will cut them to size for you, free of charge.

After a shortage of items in the initial delivery the problem was promptly resolved.
The items are excellent value for money and I now have updated two single beds to a very high quality. I would highly recommend this product.

Bishops Beds Single Starter Kit – Wooden Bed
Slats and holders were excellent and have proved to make my new bed very comfortable with a John Lewis Ortho Pocket Spring 1000 mattress. It was just annoying that it took 4 separate contacts and deliveries from the company after the initial order was received before the correct number and type of holders were finally delivered. I have given the product rating full marks, but would rate the order handling and checking at 2-3

I had done some research into bed slats (including looking on eBay) and Bishops were by far the best value so I ordered the single starter kit and received it the next day.
I already had the timber I needed to make the bed frame which is destined to convert the dinette in our Hobby 650 into a single bed with slatted base providing ventilation for the real (Ikea) mattress – no more lumpy, uneven cushions!
The bed frame is just a simple rectangle with centre brace – looks like a capital B (with straight sides…)
I had ordered uncut slats so I needed to cut them to size but once I worked out the measurement, it was easy to do with a chop saw. A fine toothed cross-cut hand saw would have done the job too.
I fastened the top, middle and bottom slats directly to the bed frame as the cross pieces of the frame precluded using the plastic holders, but I elongated those mounting holes to permit the small extension in length as the slats are compressed in use.
I may have to contour the centre brace of the bed frame to accommodate any downward curve of that slat but this will be a simple job with a jigsaw after I have tested the complete bed for comfort.
Thanks to Bishops for an excellent product at a very fair price.

I was concerned as to the length, so I phoned stating the width between slat shelves, and length of existing flat slats. I was informed these would be a bit short; so I dismantled bed and fixed pieces of 2×2 ontop of existing shelves to reduce width by 5cm. Being disabled this was no mean feat. When the slats arrived I could have cried! They would have fit the original gap perfectly! As it is, I can’t use the end caps as the slats are now too long.
After all this effort, has it made a difference to the comfort of the bed? Slightly, very slightly.
